Following is a response from DHS staff member, Blake Zachary:

The DHS GitHub - https://github.com/DHSProgram/DHS-Analysis-Code/tree/main/Mu ltilevel_Weights/India - provides instructions on the calculation of multilevel weights for NFHS-4 and NFHS-5. The repository contains an excel file with district-level census data for urban EAs. For rural clusters, you will need to download these data from the website of the Census of India at https://censusindia.gov.in/census.website/data/census-tables #. The necessary data are provided as separate excel files for each district. On the census tables search, click census year 2011 and then search for "pca block wise". Once you download the excel files, you can use Stata code (India_NFHS4_compile_rural_HHsize.do) provided on the DHS GitHub to compile the needed data for rural clusters. We will be updating the instructions on the DHS GitHub regarding rural data as the Census of India website was recently reorganized and our link no longer works.
