Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum and other Senior DHS Staff:

DHS has never had standard indicators on asthma, and that is why it is not in the STATcompiler. It has only appeared in country-specific questions in 7 DHS surveys, plus the 2002 Uzbekistan HES.

In the Chronic Disease module there is a question about lung diseases, but this mainly identifies COPD, not asthma.

The 2002 Uzbekistan Health Examination survey (2002 UHES), which does not come up in the search below, asked about self-reported asthma (see Individual Qre, QA33)

Here is the link for the 2002 UHES https://dhsprogram.com/methodology/survey/survey-display-213 .cfm
In the 2002 UHES report, see chapter 12, Table 12.5 on self-reported chronic illness including asthma https://dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-FR143-Other- Final-Reports.cfm

In a DHS website search, 7 surveys came up for Asthma: Burundi 2016-17; Honduras 2011-12; India 1998-99, 2005-06, 2015-16; Senegal 2010-11; South Africa 1998

If you want to use these surveys (a total of 8) but still cannot find the variables in the data files, please let us know.
