Following is a response from DHS Senior Sampling Specialist, Mahmoud Elkasabi:
You can use chmort in DHS.rates. Use the JK argument to calculate the confidence intervals and the Class argument to identify the desired subpopulation: chmort(Data.Name, JK = "Yes", Class = NULL). If you have trouble getting the desired subpopulation, you can prepare data files that are reduced to the subpopulations of interest and then run chmort repeatedly.
