Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

You do not need to do a merge. The KR and BR files include the mother's age and her cmc of birth (v011). At the time of the child's birth (b3) the mother's age in months is b3-v011. You can convert that to single years of age with int((b3-v011)/12).
