I would recommend using IPUMS DHS. That way, all the variables will already be harmonized for you.

Log in using your DHS Program user name (email) and password. Select your unit of analysis (Women), select the samples you want (India), and then select the variables that interest you using the Topics drop-down menu. To download the data, click on "View Data Cart." (The data, as always, are free.)

Here you will see an option to "Submit Extract." Be sure to click on "Change Format" before you click Submit Extract to get the data in the form (e.g., a Stata dta file) you want.

You will get an email within a minute or two taking you to the page where you can download your integrated and harmonized data.
