Following is a response from DHS Stata Specialist, Shireen Assaf:

Dear Zobi,

Please refer to the following link on our DHS website: http://dhsprogram.com/topics/unmet-need.cfm

There is a revised definition of unmet need. At the end of the link you will find Stata code that will be able to give you the revised estimates for unmet need for older surveys. In the new datasets the variable is v626a.

Please also refer to the following analytical study: https://dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/AS25/AS25%5B12June2012%5D.pd f

Thank you.
