Hello All,
Based on some responses here, I have been able to create a family structure variable using the PR file. However, I have encountered some issues with merging. When I tab the variables with the household variables, it says : no observations. Could it be that questions were only asked for children under the age of 15?
I am trying to examine family structure of youth (males and females) aged 15-24. I am interested in knowing whether they live in one, two or combined parent households. Would it be possible to get a variable that measures the living arrangements of youth using the DHS file.

I'm just guessing here, but are you perhaps trying to use variables like the following from the PR file:
HV111 (mother alive)
HV112 (mother's line number in the household, if present)
HV113 (father alive)
HV114 (father's line number, if present)
If this is what you are using, the problem lies in the fact that these data were often not collected for people in your age group of interest.
For example, these are the results for the universe (who was included in the question) for variable HV111 (mother alive) for samples in IPUMS-DHS:

Two of the Nigerian survey only collect the data for these 4 variables for children under age 15, and the other two only collect this information for people under age 18. In general, it's a good idea to check who is included in variables key to your analysis, and it's easy to do using the variable-specific information in IPUMS-DHS (consult the "Universe" tab.)
I think a more robust approach would be to work with the relationship to household head variable in the HR file, HV101. If the adolescent is listed as "child" of the head, then you know s/he is living with at least one parent. You'll have to loop through the household to construct some summary measures about whether one or both parents of the child are present.
