I was wondering when the wealth index factor weight Excel file and syntax file will be published on the Wealth Index Construction page.

Good morning,

This topic is a little dated, but I am also looking for the 2014 Ghana wealth index Excel file. The Wealth Index Construction page seems to still only have the 2008 results. Could you please send a link where I might find these files? Thanks!

Thanks very much! I have started putting it to use. I have one question that you might be able to clarify. In the rural index, why would a person be penalized twice for having livestock? The scores indicate you lose a high amount of points for TWO conditions, i.e.

Chickens: None? Yes (0.028) No (-0.114)
Chickens: 1-9? Yes (-0.119) No (0.012)

If a person in my survey has any sort of livestock, they drop a quintile very quickly since they are "penalized" for both questions. This may be intentional, but I just thought it wise to follow up.

The Ghana DHS 2014 Wealth Index files that were previously posted here contained an error and have been removed. Updated files have been posted to the Wealth Index Construction page. If you had previously downloaded these files, please delete the files and download the corrected version from the Wealth Index Construction page.

Thank you for the update. It seems the rural and urban tabs were possibly switched. Does that mean the composite score calculation formulas should also be switched? They did not change between the new and old Excel documents. I wanted to make sure everything was in order before I put in the work to correct it. Thanks again!

Please hold off - there are still issues in the spreadsheet and PDF. I have removed them again and requested that they be created again from the original SPSS output. I will provide an update when the spreadsheet and PDF are corrected. Note that the problems are not with the creation of the wealth index, but just with the creation of the spreadsheet and PDF from it.
