Hi!

I had put up this request last week as well but received no response. I am looking for a way to merge the data containing the specific names of the caste with the files containing the all the other information, for example the couple recode. But there is no unique identifier provided in the castetribe data file. Kindly provide assistance

See Message 8198.

An individual in the DHS surveys is generally recognized by the PSU number, the household number within the PSU or cluster, and the number of the individual in the household roster. These three identifiers are unique in the data set. Sometimes an additional identifier such as the concession number within the household is added. For India, the state, to which the household belongs, is added to the PSU number.

For more explanation on the variables included in the distributed files, please refer to the DHS Recode Manual, which can be downloaded from the www.DHSprogram.com website, and the documentation included in the distributed files.
