Hello Senior,
I am trying to study the effects of social determinants on health inequality and life expectancy among a subset of the population of Edo State, Nigeria. I found that the 2013 NDHS (Nigeria) final report is a summary of the results of the national survey. Where can I find the data on Edo, one of the states assessed in the 2013 NDHS, please? I am using SPSS for my analysis.

Hello Senior,
Thank you for the pains taken to get me a response from the senior data processing specialist. I found the SHSTATE variable, but I still have a problem. I tried to search for variables carrying the code '250' or SHSTATE or SSTATE in the downloaded 2013 DHS SPSS files for Nigeria but didn't find anything else specific for the states. Do I have to do any other statistical manipulation before I can get to the data for my state of interest-Edo?. I am feeling very frustrated about the coding in the dhs as it appears very difficult for non-statisticians like me to use as even the 'dhs recode book', 'dhs statistics guide', and other dhs guide books have not helped me. I was thinking that someone with basic knowledge of statistics would be able to use the dhs database for research but I am really finding it hard as, right now, I don't know how to proceed from here except I go on to use the tables in the dhs final reports for Nigeria. Please, help me further by telling me what to do if you don't mind. Please, how do I proceed from here to get the state-level variables? I am not too good in statistics but, if I am shown the steps, I can follow.
I am sorry for bothering you,
Daniel
