Colleagues,

I've been reading several MIS reports for different countries, different years e.g. Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria, Mozambique etc. What i get is they all have pretty much the same questionnaires i.e. Household & Women(which includes the child health component). The women questionnaire particularly contains a section on the woman's reproduction and birth history. Reading the mannuals, these two are put there to collect data to compute the different mortality rates in children.
However, reading all these MIS reports, mortality rates results are not there.

So, help educate me here. Why is this information always collected in almost every MIS yet the reports seem not to contain the results?

Thanks
Geoffrey

Here is a response from one of our data processing experts, Guillermo Rojas:
Dear User,
The information is collected to identify children to whom questions related to malaria/fever and their treatment, should be asked. It is not intended to calculate fertility or mortality rates.

Really, i thought the household listing page of the household questionnaire does cover that. For each child in the household, the line number of the caretaker (who in most cases is the mother but could be someone else) is asked. And the purpose of that is so you know who to interview to that child's health.

Response on behalf of one of our data processing experts, Guillermo Rojas:

The household listing is used to determine children who slept under mosquito nets but it isn't used to determine children's treatment for malaria. Questions related to treatment for malaria is based on children of eligible women.
