Dear User,
Here is a response from one of our technical experts, Mr. Fred Arnold,
Quote:You would need to use the information in the Household Schedule on the survivorship and residence of the father and mother for each child under 18 years in the HH schedule (Columns 12-15 in the standard questionnaire (DHS6) or equivalent in the survey questionnaires you are looking at). You would then need to look at the map file to determine what these variables are in the recode file. The user should also check the residence status of each person (in Columns 5 and 6) since it may be best to use only usual residents of the household, not visitors. Since the HH schedule is set up with each person's relationship to the head of the household, it is not always possible to determine which persons constitute a family, but it is often possible to do so using the relationship to head codes in Column 3 of the HH schedule, especially for small households.
The DHS6 Standard Questionnaires can be found on our website: http://dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsq6-dhs-que stionnaires-and-manuals.cfm DHS7 questionnaires are also available http://dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsq7-dhs-que stionnaires-and-manuals.cfm. If you have additional questions, please post again. thank you!
