Which re-code file can be used to look at the proportion of children under the age of five who have birth certificates?
Thank you,
Anne

Dear User,
In the Nigeria DHS 2008, the recode variable SH33 is country specific and corresponds the QH33 in the household questionnaire. The birth registration information they were seeking was only for children 0 to 4 years old. I looked at the recode application for the Nigeria DHS 2008 and found this: if HV105(i) in 0:4 then
HV140(i) = notappl; { Member has a birth certificate }
endif;
This is also looking at children 0-4 years. The Nigeria DHS 2008 made the variable QH33 country specific SH33 because the variable differed from the standard. The standard core questionnaire variable had a code of 3 for neither.
1 has certificate
2 registered
3 neither
8 don't know
The Nigeria DHS questionnaire only had:
1 yes
2 no
8 dk
Otherwise they would have used HV140 as you indicated. Hope this answers your question. If you still have questions, please feel free to post again.
