I am trying to locate the ethics approval information for the 2006 and 2011 Uganda DHS but am unable to find this information in the country reports. Can you please tell me which relevant bodies signed off on the DHS? I assume at a minimum the study was approved by the Macro ICF IRB, the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology, and the Research Secretariat in the Office of the President. But was there another in-country university IRB (eg., Makerere) that was involved? Thank you.

Hi -- according to the documentation sent to me, the DHS was only approved by the ICF IRB. But my understanding is that all research in Uganda must be cleared by the UNCST as well as the President's Office. So is the staff telling me that DHS was _not_ cleared by UNCST and the President's Office?

Second follow up question: were the approval procedures for the 2011 AIS similar to the procedures for the 2011 DHS? (i.e., was the 2011 AIS also approved solely by the ICF IRB?)
