Hi,

I am fairly new to DHS data. I have two questions pertaining to the data set and variables.

1. Is there anyway we can match the variables to the questionnaires. I know that the country-specific variables correspond to the actual question number in the country questionnaire. Can we do the same for other variables? I am using the recode manual and mapping which is extremely helpful.
2. I need some more information on the KR file. Is this file only maintains record of children born in last five years of only eligible (interviewed) women with each row in the stata file representing a child's information with his/her mother's information attached to it?

I will really appreciate your clarifications.

Thanks
Bibhu

Yes, the recode manual and mapping is how the recode variables can be matched to the questionnaire.

The KR (Children's Data - Children's Recode) has one record for every child of interviewed women, born in the five years preceding the survey. It contains the information related to the child's pregnancy and postnatal care and immunization and health. The data for the mother of each of these children is included. This file is used to look at child health indicators such as immunization coverage, vitamin A supplementation, and recent occurrences of diarrhea, fever, and cough for young children and treatment of childhood diseases. The unit of analysis (case) in this file is the children of women born in the last 5 years (0-59 months). Read more on dataset types.
