I need Stata codes to compute parameters (Cm, Cc, Ci and Ca) of the Bongaarts' model using DHS data. Any help?
I would like to estimate the parameters (Cm, Cc, Ci and Ca) of the Bongaarts' model on proximate determinants of fertility using DHS data (TFR = TF x Cm x Cc x Ca x Ci).
Can someone share his stata codes with me? It would be greatly appreciated.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

I am attaching my "personal" Stata program for this purpose. It is not an "official" DHS program. I put it together in September 2019, after some email exchanges with John Bongaarts and Jocelyn Finlay. It requires age-specific fertility rates that must be prepared separately, as described in the program. It is set up for a Malawi survey. The attached Excel file, obtained via StatCompiler, is the source of the rates for the example. As I recall, the results are close to the published estimates but they may not be exact. You may be able to improve on the program.

I'm also interested in estimating Bongaarts' model parameters using DHS data. While I don't have specific Stata codes to share, I recommend checking out resources from the DHS website for guidance. By the way, I recently enjoyed some downtime playing geoguessr free, which helped me relax while working on my analysis. If anyone has code snippets or tips, I'd love to hear them!

Okay, understanding Bongaarts' model is crucial for fertility analysis using DHS data. While I don't have specific Stata code readily available, searching online repositories like the DHS program website or IDEAS is a good start. Also, consider adapting code used for similar demographic models. Don't forget the importance of clean data, and for some unrelated fun, check out Moto X3M! Good luck with your research!
