My name is Michelle,and I am currently working with the Benin 2017-18 DHS Household Recode dataset to caculate a key education indicator: the percentage of children of compulsory schooling age who are currently not enrolled.
Denominator: All children who fall within the compulsory schooling age range(to be defined based on Benin's official policy)
Numerator: Children who are both within the compulsory schooling age range AND currently not in school.
I initially planned to use two variables from the Household Recode dataset to compute this indicator:
hv105(Age of household members)-to identify children of compulsory schooling age;
hv110(is the household member still in school)-to determine enrollment status
However, after loading the dataset into Stata, I noticed that all values for the variable hv110 are displayed as '.'. I am writing to seek your guidance on two questions:
1. Could you help explain what these universal missing values for hv110 indicate?
2. If hv110 is not availabe or fully missing for this dataset,could you recommend alternative variables within the Household Recode dataser that I can use to identify the enrollment satus of children?
Any insights or suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and support.
