Dear all,

I am calculating the prevalence of women 15-49 y who think wife beating is justified considering five specific variables in the IR files from 2007 to 2022: v744a/b/c/d/e. My estimates match the DHS reports and STAT compiler for the survey years 2007, 2011, 2014, and 2017. However, I calculated 9.2% in 2022, while there's a 13.8% prevalence in the 2022 final report. STAT compiler doesn't disclose figures for 2022. I wanted to ask why STAT compiler doesn't publish estimates for this indicator and if someone has a clue on something unique to that dataset that should be considered in the calculations.

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Because of the subsampling for biometry in this survey, about a third of women were not asked these questions. They must be excluded from the denominator. The following Stata lines will match the 13.8% in Table 12.9:

use "...BDIR81FL.DTA", clear 

tab1 v744*,m

gen outcome=0 if v744a<.

foreach ll in a b c d e {
replace outcome=1 if v744`ll'==1
}

tab outcome [iweight=v005/1000000]

I will alert the staff in charge of STATcompiler that this indicator was omitted. I believe that was just an oversight.
