How to get number of births by wealth quintile from DHS compiler [message #3070]

Hi,

I was trying hard to get total number of births by wealth quintile, education and residence from DHS compiler to compute Concentration index for under-five mortality, but I could't. Your help is highly appreciated.

There is no single denominator for the mortality rates. See the Guide to DHS Statistics ( http://www.dhsprogram.com/publications/publication-dhsg1-dhs -questionnaires-and-manuals.cfm) pages 90-94 for an explanation of the calculations. There is a different denominator used for every age group in the calculation of the probabilities used to produce the mortality rates.

You can use an approximation to the distribution of the number of births for the five years preceding the surveys from the STATcompiler using the following link:
http://statcompiler.com/?vis=DT&cc=BJ,BD&ind=7814900 1&charcat=111,113,485,115&byvar=288000&mode=1
Here I have selected the Bangladesh and Benin surveys and picked the denominator for the assistance at delivery indicator, which gives the births recorded in the survey in the three years and five years preceding the survey (pick the five years). You can then get these numbers by education, wealth and residence. I hope this is helpful.
