Hello,

I'm creating a variable for the mother's age, but there are some differences between v012 and v447a. Which one should be preferred?

Thanks

I got the answer while reading one of the posts on the forum. It says individual responses have priority over the responses in the PR file.

Thank you

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The label for v447a is "women's age in years (from household questionnaire)". That is, it is equivalent to hv105 for the woman in the PR file. We give priority to v012, which is given by the woman herself, in the personal interview with her, rather than hv105, which may be reported by someone else on behalf of everyone in the household. Even if the household respondent is the woman, and both responses come from her, we consider v012 to be more accurate. It is the age that is used in all of the analysis.
