Issue with NFHS 5 DHS India 2019-2021 Data Files [message #30586]

I recently downloaded the NFHS 5 India 2019-2021 dataset from the DHS Program website. However, I am unable to access the files on multiple devices, including my laptop and those of my fellow members.

The issues are as follows:

The files do not appear on the screen after downloading.
PDF files show as corrupted when attempting to open them.
DTA files (Stata format) are missing icons and cannot be accessed.
The following error message is displayed for PDF files:
[Adobe Acrobat reader could not open the file because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded].

I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue. Could there be a problem with the download or the way I download or file format?

Hello, We are a bit confused by your comment. There are no PDF files in the DHS survey datasets. Please clarify what specifically you are downloading and where you are seeing PDF files. Thank you.

We now have repositories of code written in Stata and SPSS available on Github. Please reference these code repositories as a resource for code for matching or calculating DHS indicators. The code repositories can be found at:

I have attached the Stata folder I downloaded, plus how the files appear in the zipped folder, how they appear when extracted and the message displayed when I try to open the PDF file provided.
Plus, I am unable to open and convert the DTA file to CSV file

Am I doing something wrong?

Your system is incorrectly identifying that file as an Adobe Acrobat file. That is a text file. Please refer to the following link for file descriptions.

Also you need to setup your system to display file extensions for all files.

Would you please tell me where I can find the Questionnaire along with the code and sub-code list for the NFHS 5 data?
