For NFHS-2, you will indeed need to create the anaemia levels yourself using the haemoglobin levels provided in the variable s902. The variable v457 (anaemia level) is not available for NFHS-2, so you will have to apply the new WHO cutoffs for haemoglobin to categorize the anaemia levels (any, mild, moderate, severe).
Here are the WHO cutoffs for haemoglobin levels to classify anaemia:
Non-pregnant women (15 years and above):
Mild anaemia: 11.0-11.9 g/dL
Moderate anaemia: 8.0-10.9 g/dL
Severe anaemia: <8.0 g/dL
Pregnant women:
Mild anaemia: 10.0-10.9 g/dL
Moderate anaemia: 7.0-9.9 g/dL
Severe anaemia: <7.0 g/dL
Men (15 years and above):
Mild anaemia: 11.0-12.9 g/dL
Moderate anaemia: 8.0-10.9 g/dL
Severe anaemia: <8.0 g/dL
You will need to use these cutoffs to categorize the haemoglobin levels in s902 into the respective anaemia levels.
