Dear all,

I am looking for the exact variable for my two research questions. My RQ1 is "What is the association between follow-up care practices and post-discharge mortality rates among children under 5 years when controlling for household income, mothers age , and mothers' level of education?"

My RQ2 is "What is the association between the severity of malaria and post-discharge mortality rates among children under 5 years when controlling for household income, mothers' age, and mothers' education?"

Can someone please show me the exact variable that would be appropriate to answer my research questions?

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mina

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The DHS staff cannot help with the design of research projects. Perhaps other users can help. However, whenever you post a question on the forum, please specify what survey you are working with. For your question, a Malaria Indicator Survey is probably most appropriate. It would be helpful to say what age range you are using for child deaths--for example, the first week, the first month, or the first year. Age at death, for children who died, is given by b6 or b7. Your term "post-discharge" suggests that you are only looking at births which take place in some kind of health facility. Are you intentionally omitting births that are not in a facility?
