Dear Madam/sir,
May I have a quick question on the sampling of domestic violence module. For example, in Cambodia 2021-2022, the participant for domestic violence module are 9,65 (v044). But why 2,156 (v044==0) were not selected? I tried to read a couple of DHS reports and domestic violence module questions and sampling related documents, but I could not find specific reasons why they are not selected. Are there any reasons or where can I find that infos.

Thank you so much again.
Sincerely
wwm

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

To understand which women were included in the DV module in this survey, it will help to do the following: (1) open the HR or PR file and enter "tab hv044"; (2) open the IR file and enter "tab v044,m"; and (3) look at page 491 in the final report. You will then see that half of the households were randomly selected for the module, and within these households, one woman was randomly selected.

Applying the module to only half the households was done to reduce costs. Many, perhaps most, DHS surveys involve some subsampling for the optional modules in order to reduce fieldwork costs. The random selection of only one woman in the household is standard for the DV module.  Among other considerations, it reduces the amount of time that is spent in each household.
