Hello,
In the women sample in NFHS-5,
I am wondering why there is a difference between
-IR: v133 "Education in single years"
and
-PR: sh20 "Highest grade completed" or hv108 "Education completed in single years"
we checked that sh20 is same with hv108.
If all the women sample in IR is inlcuded in PR, is there an equivalent of v133 in the PR files?
What should we use to generate education categories based on their education year in total or highest grade completed?
Thank you always!
Best,

Following is a response from Senior DHS Staff Member, Tom Pullum:
Yes. Some questions in the household questionnaire, such as age, marital status, and education, are asked again in the individual questionnaires (for women and men). When they differ, the response in the IR/MR file has priority over the response in the PR file. The household respondent (the person with line number hv003) is often someone other than the respondent in the individual surveys, and is less knowledgeable, but sometimes the same person will give a different answer. In some data quality analyses, we have looked at these kinds of discrepancies.
