Hello,

I want to create variables reflecting the order of birth of the living children, along with their gender. How can I do that in Stata? Please help.

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

In the BR file, the cases are all the children who appear in the women's birth histories. The variable giving birth order is "bord" The sex of the child is "b4", with b4=1 for male and b4=2 for female. If you open the BR file and enter "describe b*" you will get the full list of b variables.
