For the Gabon 2011-2012 survey, does S232A reflect lifetime abortion or past 5 years? Is there a last 5 year measure in this dataset based on the question in the survey which states "LAST LAST ABORTION IN ABORTION BEFORE JAN 251 2007 OR LATER"
Thanks!

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

I have just looked at the questionnaire, specifically the segment between approximately Q232 and Q251.  The woman is asked how many abortions she ever had. That is coded as s232a.  Then, if her most recent abortion was in the past 5 years, there is a series of questions about that specific abortion.

The woman is not asked for the number of abortions in the past 5 years. If she had at least one abortion in the past 5 years, then variables such as v242 will be asked, that is v242 will be not NA (that is, it will not be coded with a dot).  If her lifetime number of abortions is 1, and it occurred in the past 5 years, then v242 will be not NA and you can tell that she had one abortion in the past 5 years. Otherwise you simply cannot tell how many abortions she had in the past 5 years.
