Hi,

I am working on a study with outcome of interest as hypertension. I want to assess the risk factors of hypertension in both males and females. The variables I am interested in are physical activity, marital status, employment status, smoking status, alcohol use, BMI, measured or self-reported hypertension and setting (rural/urban). I have gone through the datasets and realized I might need to merge some data sets. Will it be appropriate to merge household member, individual and men's?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Yes, this is a fairly common merge. The Stata code may already be posted on the forum. The identifiers you need to match are hv001 hv002 hvidx in the PR file; v001 v002 v003 in the IR file; and mv001 mv002 mv003 in the MR file. Let us know if you have any difficulties.

hi NANA,

I'm working on a similar topic as you (distribution of hypertension prevalence in Côte d'Ivoire),i'm also interested in the same variables which i found in IR and MR datasets except BMI and Physical activity.
but i'm having trouble merging the data set.
i will be grateful if you share the steps or codes you used to merge those dataset, also after the merging which variables did you used to see the 'n' in both men and women in the final population.

thanks

Sylla

Hi Sylvia,

Unfortunately I haven't merged them yet since I've been unwell. I'm just recovering. However, there were some codes I was directed to. You can look at it and look at the datasets you want to merge and play with the data.

I am trying to investigate hypertension in Benin and I realize that in the IR set, only women ages 30-49, got their SBP and DBP measured, and all of their individual rows do not have height, weight, and BMI. Is this true or I may be making mistakes somewhere?

Hi,

I have gone through different merging and finally decided to analyze MR and IR separately as stratified.
I tried merging IR and HR and I got the population of IR
I tried merging CR and HR and I got the population of CR

Thank you.
