Hi!
PLEASE IGNORE THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS I POSTED!!
(I THINK I HAVE GOT THEM)
It would be really helpful if the following points are clarified by anyone on the forum;
1. Is 'never been in union' equivalent to 'never married'?
2. What does 'currently in union' indicate? Is it same as 'currently married'?
Is it possible to have get any 'instructions manual' for NFHS-5, that usually are provided to the field enumerators. That would be useful.
Thank you
Regards
Rupon

Below are the instructions for marital status in the NFHS-5 Interviewer's Manual:
Column (8): CURRENT MARITAL STATUS
Column (8) is concerned with the current marital status of respondents who are 13 years or older. Thus,
you should not record an answer in Column (8) if the respondent is 12 years or younger.
RESPONSE CODES
'1' if the person is married irrespective of whether the spouse lives in the same household
'2' if the person is married but gauna has not been performed
'3' if the person was married but his/her spouse is dead
'4' if the person was married, but has legally obtained a divorce from his/her spouse
'5' if the person is married, and his/her spouse is alive, but they are separated and do not live
together as husband and wife
'6' if the person is married, but has been deserted by his/her spouse
'7' if the person has never been married
