Dear all,
I am using the birth history data of Egypt in 2014 (EGBR61F) and I want to generate a variable showing exact day of birth of all children born to each mother (e.g., which day of the month). I am aware that there are month of birth (b1) and year of birth (b2) in the data but not day of birth. I am also aware of variable b19, which measures age of children in day, but this is not the variable I wanted. Any help if much appreciated. Thank you.
FYI, I am using Stata 17.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
The BR file from this survey does not include the day of birth (it also does not include b19). The birth history did not include a question about day of birth (that question, and b19, were added in DHS-7).
The closest to what you want is hc16 in the PR file, for children alive and in the household and less than 5 years old. This variable includes some cases with hc16=98, for day not known. We would usually recode 98 to hc16=16.
You could merge hc16 onto the BR file, matching hvidx (line number in the PR file) with b16 in the BR file. This would not include children who have died or are not living with the mother or are 5+ years of age.
