Dear Expert,

I'm working on a project that involves analyzing country-level data to generate regional estimates. Can you provide guidance on the most effective approach to calculating these estimates while maintaining precision and reliability? If possible, can you please provide any STATA codes?

Thank you for considering my inquiry!

Best regards
Nahid

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Your question is very general. Please tell us which survey you are using and what is your outcome of interest. In the data files, hv024 (or v024) is sub-national region. Or are you talking about regions that are constructed by aggregating several countries?

Dear Tom Pullum,
My apology I couldn't make it clear. I am asking about regions that are constructed by aggregating several countries.

Best Regards

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

You can combine multiple surveys (from the same country or different countries) into a single long file using the append command in Stata, with an identifier for each survey. Sometimes this is an efficient way to compare the different surveys, test for differences, look at trends, etc. However, we cannot provide support for constructing estimates for pooled surveys, beyond some older posts you can find on the forum. Pooling surveys from different countries raises many issues of completeness, reference period, weights, etc. You can do it if you wish, of course, but DHS staff can't help.
