Dear DHS,

I am working on a spatial analysis for maternal mortality in Nigeria. I have been able to calculate the maternal mortality ratio following the do file in chapter 16 of GitHub. However, I'd like to disaggregate it into the states level. Please how do I go about it?

Thank you.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The maternal mortality estimates should not be disaggregated by any covariates, such as state, because the data on survival and mortality refer to the respondent's sisters and the covariates refer to the respondents, not the sisters. We do not know where the sisters are living or where they died, if they died. Another issue is that the number of deaths in the data is small, and if that number were disaggregated the estimates would have too much statistical uncertainty to be useful.
