Hi,

I am using the DHS datasets for a research project in India at the subnational level. I have access to the GPS file and I want guidance to use the datasets at the state assembly electoral district level. I will be using the STATA software for the analysis. I have a couple of questions:

The facts sheet says that the NFHS survey data for 2019-2021 is available at the district level. What is the meaning of it?

Whether the GPS files of DHS datasets of India provide the state assembly electoral district boundaries or not?

If yes, how to access it? If not, any guidance regarding this would be highly helpful.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Divya

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The data files include variables such as sdist, sdistrict, shdist, shdistrict, that include codes for districts. Cases with the same code are in the same district, and you can calculate means, proportions, etc. by districts. Other forum posts include Stata code showing how to do this. The GPS files do not include the boundaries.
