Hi,

I want to create a variable with the number of married couples in a household, using NFHS-5 Data. Can anyone please help?

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

The attached program should do what you want. It is set up for the NFHS-4 rather than -5 but you just have to change the file names. Note that only 1/6 of the households were selected for the subsample of men. If the household was not selected, there will be no couples, and I assign code 99. You should review the matching procedure DHS uses to match women and men. Some men have more than one wife, and the CR file repeats the men for such couples. There are no duplicated wives, but there are a few duplicate husbands.
