I am using the 2014 Ghana DHS which is recoded as in the DHS 6 Recode Manual. The variable hw1 indicates the child's age in months. According to the DHS 6 Recode Manual, this is calculated from the date of the interview (cmc) (v008) and the date of birth (cmc) (b3). For the hw1 variable there are 3102 missing values, but for both v008 and b3 (which hw1 are based on) have zero missing values.
Can anyone help me understand where the missing values in hw1 comes from?
Thank you

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

What file are you using? The KR file is for children born in the past 5 years and should have a numerical code (hw1=v008-b3) for all cases in the file. However, this variable also appears in the BR file, where it is coded with a dot (for NA or not applicable) for children born earlier. The BR file includes ALL births in the birth histories. Perhaps you are looking at the BR file?
