Hello :)

I am working on my undergraduate thesis regarding Spousal Violence and Women's Employment in India and am trying to calculate summary statistics for women's education, women's age group, marital duration, etc. I am using DHS data and have imported it in Stata but am struggling to calculate a survey weight-adjusted percent mean for the aforementioned categories. Would anyone be able to provide some guidance? Any help would me much appreciated. Thanks!

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Are you using a statistical package? In Stata, for example, enter "help weight" to find out more. The weight variable is hv005, v005, or mv005, depending on the file. If using DV variables in the IR file, the weight is d005. There have been many postings on the forum, with examples, related to weights. Perhaps other users can give you more specific help.

I would recommend that you concentrate on the syntax of your commands WITHOUT weights first, and then you can easily make the relatively minor modifications needed to bring in the weights.
