Hello,
I have appended the Jordan IR dataset in 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017/18. The variable v101 described as region changes from 2012 and 2017/18. At first the variable takes on values 1, 2 and 3. Where 1 is central, 2 is north and 3 is south. In 2017/18 we get a 2 digit value which also starts with 1, 2 or 3. It is however followed by one of the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 (e.g. 11, 14, 23 etc). I have looked in both the recode manual and the final report to see if the first digit in the value of the 2017/18 set would correspond the same way as in previous one, but cannot find anything. Where could I possibly find the information about this, or is there anyone here who knows if that is the case?

Thanks

Following is a response from Senior DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

Virtually all DHS final reports, including those on the Jordan surveys, include a map. If you compare the maps from the successive surveys you will see that you are correct about the coding. In the list of 12 regions (governorates), the first digit identifies the larger region in the list of 3 regions. In fact, here is a table you can construct with the 2012 data (JOIR6CFL.dta):

/index.php?t=getfile&id=2065&private=0

If you repeat as "tab sgovern v101, nolabel", you will get the numerical codes.
