I would like to understand why there are 24 variables for 1 question, for instance for the question "do you have difficulty seeing?" it has 24 other variables with the same variable label, and each variable produces different values.

Thank you for submitting your question. Could you please provide some more detailed information so we can better advise you?

Can you let us know:

• Which survey you are using (Include country name and year)?
• Which data files you are referring to?
• Which software you are using (Stata, SPSS, R, etc.)?

If you are trying to match a Table in a final report, please also indicate which table and which estimate you are trying to match.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:

It will be much easier to analyze the disability variables in this survey if you use the PR file, not the HR file. In the PR file, the cases are individuals. You have been using the HR file, in which there is one wide record for each household and there are separate values for each person, such as hdis2_01, hdis2_02, etc. In the PR file you just have hdis2 for each person.
