Dear all,
i want to look at the domestic violence variables in the couples dataset of the DHS Namibia 2013. Because there is no section and variable description in the Recode Manual i just used the DV-Variables from the individual datasets. If i display the DV Variables in the couples set they are empty. Did i use the wrong ones or are there no DV-Variables in the couples dataset?

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
In several surveys (unfortunately for researchers), a subsample of households were selected for the men's interview and a subsample of households were selected for the DV module, and these subsamples did not overlap. When that design is used, the DV variables do not appear in the CR file. Please check the description of the design in the final report. Also, in the PR file you can look at hv118, which is 1 for men eligible for the men's interview, and look for a variable indicating selection for the DV module.
We on the research team have lobbied against this design. When it is used, it is intended to help equalize the time that interviewers spend in each household.
