I tried merging two datasets for Senegal, but I had a problem because it told me there were no unique identifiers. I tried all corrective methods, but nothing worked. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you for submitting your question. Could you please provide some more detailed information so we can better advise you?

Can you let us know:
• Which survey you are using (Include country name and year)?
• Which data files you are referring to?
• Which software you are using (Stata, SPSS, R, etc.)?
If you are trying to match a Table in a final report, please also indicate which table and which estimate you are trying to match.

Hello Janet
Thank you for your response. Am working with Senegal data from 1997 and 2015. I was merging the household member file with another dataset I created with household head education information. Am using state. This is for my master's thesis.

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:

Please specify which files you are trying to merge, with filenames such as "SNPR32FL.DTA". If you have constructed a separate file and have not copied the identifiers, you can't do a merge. The usual identifiers are hv001, hv002, hvidx in the PR file; v001, v002, v003 in the IR file, and mv001, mv002, mv003 in the MR file. You cannot merge a file from one survey with a file from another survey, but you can "append" the files, which may be what you want to do. Please provide more information.
