Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:
Yes, in all the surveys that include anthropometry with the "new" WHO standard, hw70 is the height-for-age score, hw71 is the weight-for-age score, and hw72 is the weight-for-height score. They include a factor of 1000 and have special codes such as 9996 (the labels describe them). The variables names start with hw in the KR file and hc in the PR file. The previous (CDC) standard is never used now but appears in the data files as hw4, hw7, and hw11.
