Hi

I am a phd studnet, I am doing my first paper.
I am using DHS dataset for egypt for the years 2008 and 2014.

I notice by reading that the ANTHROPOMETRIC INDICATORS in the lastest years used new who reference group
I am trying to find out if HW70 - HW71- HW72 are using the new who reference group or the old one.

In 2014,

I want to compare the result between 2008 and 2014 and if they are using different reference group i think i need to re-estimate the old year with the new one, But i need a confirmation that which reference group has 2008 dataset used? the old or the new?

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:

Yes, in all the surveys that include anthropometry with the "new" WHO standard, hw70 is the height-for-age score, hw71 is the weight-for-age score, and hw72 is the weight-for-height score. They include a factor of 1000 and have special codes such as 9996 (the labels describe them). The variables names start with hw in the KR file and hc in the PR file. The previous (CDC) standard is never used now but appears in the data files as hw4, hw7, and hw11.
