Hi,

I am interested in a couple of biomarker variables in the latest DHS: HbA1c and vitamin D3. On page number 6 (PDF page 40), under Section 1.4 (Biomarker measurements and tests) in the final report of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5); it reads that "The results of these tests will be published in a separate report".

I would like to know: if the data on HbA1c and vitamin D3 are already available in the published dataset or not? If not, could you please inform when the data might be available?

Many thanks!

HbA1C and Vitamin D3 are being tested at the National AIDS Research Institute in Pune, using dried blood spots collected during the NFHS-5 fieldwork. This is largely an independent operation, although NARI has been collaborating with the International Institute for Population Sciences and The DHS Program. It was expected that the testing at NARI would take about one year, so it was decided not to include the HbA1C results in the NFHS-5 national or state reports, and not to include the data in the standard NFHS-5 recode files. NARI will eventually be coming out with an independent report on both the HbA1C and Vitamin D3 tests, but we are not aware of the expected timing of that report or whether the data will eventually be publicly available.

I am new to this Forum. Just wanted to ask if there are any updates regarding the Indian vitamin D data access or possible release dates?

The latest information that we have indicates that the HbA1c testing is done and ICMR will be sharing the results for tabulation and report writing thereafter. The other two tests that are being conducted by ICMR are pending and most likely the results will not be done by the end of December 2022.

We don't have any new information from ICMR-NARI on when the data on HbA1c from the 2019-21 National Family Health Survey will be available.

There's no update on access to the microdata on vitamin D3. You'll have to contact the National AIDS Research Institute in Pune for any updates.

thanks, Fred

Fred, which email address should I use to ask them?

Maybe DHS have an idea about when the data is available?
