Hi,

I am interested in approaching a past DHS about additional testing (Rwanda 2014-2015). When looking at the data, the fields associated with additional testing are blank (ha64 and hb64). Does this mean that consent for additional testing was not sought in this survey?

Thx

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:

Those variables are blank and have "na" in the label because there were no additional tests. You can see the sequence for HIV with ha61-ha63. If there had been an additional test, there would also have been a variable for the "result of measurement". The data files usually include many "na" variables that you could think of as reserved for potential use but the data were not included in the fieldwork for that specific survey.

Thanks for the reply. Therefore, am I to interpret this that no consent was received for "additional testing" since these fields are the consent? Just want to be sure I understand.

Following is a response from DHS staff member Tom Pullum:

There was no need to ask for consent for additional testing, because THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL TESTING. That variable was not used because it was not needed.
