Hello,
I have looked through the Kenyan dataset (Woman File or KEIR70FL) and found that it is missing all values for the variable V302 (Ever Use of any FP Method). Kindly, I wished to use it for my school project, is it possible to have these values?

Hello,
I cannot figure out how to create a variable for "ever used modern contraceptive method" in the KDHS 2014 dataset using KEIR72FL.dta. v302a only describes ever using any method, not type. The frequencies for v304a_01-_20 are 100% either "modern method" (01-11) or "folkloric method" (12-20).
Message 3395 does not discuss this.

Following is a response from DHS staff member, Tom Pullum:
I looked at the questionnaire, in Appendix E of the final report, and at the data file. I believe you are correct, it is not possible to identify ever-use of specific methods. You could get at previous use of specific methods within the interval covered by the contraceptive calendar, but not use prior to the calendar. v305_* would describe ever-use of specific methods but that set of variables is NA and there are no corresponding questions. Perhaps other users can add to this.
