Hi everyone,

I am trying to merge the male recode and household member files. I am sorting and merging on cluster (mv001/hv001) and household number (mv002/hv002). The cluster number for the male recode i only 1 digit while it is 4 digits in the household member dataset. I thought that the household cluster number was 1000+mv001, but it doesn't look like that's the case. Can anyone shed some light on how to merge these two files?

Thanks!

Looks like you are missing the line number. There are several discussions on the user forum re merging DHS datasets. Please see one such discussion at:

Hi Bridgette,

Thanks so much for your quick response! I am merging on the variables listed in the table you linked to but the problem is that mv001 and hv001 don't actually match up. one of them is 4 digits while the other is 1 and I can't find a reference explaining what is going on there. Any thoughts?

Thanks again

I checked NGMR52FL.SAV & NGPR52FL.SAV - and in both data files, cluster (MV001/HV001) is 8 digits. You should be able to the merge without any problems.

Thanks,

Bridgette
