I am currently working with the NFHS-5 dataset, specifically the male subset using STATA and within this I need to declare the survey design of the dataset. From reading the final report I can see that this dataset followed a stratified two-stage sample. Thus, when following the STATA menu commands of "statistics>survey data analysis>setup and utilities> declare survey design for dataset", I reach a command prompt which for each of the two stages, STATA requests the PSU, strata, fpc and sampling weights.

Now within the dataset there are various variables that are of relevance e.g., mv005- mens sample weight, mv021- primary sampling unit, mv022- sample stratum number, mv-023 - sample domain etc.. However, I am just confused due to the second stage. Im not sure which variable to enter for each stages PSU, strata, fpc and sampling weights. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

According to our sampling expert, Ruilin Ren, these are the variables you need to declare:

1. Number of stages: 1 (because we use linearized method, it assumes simple random sampling at summarized cluster level)
2. Primary sampling unit: MV001
3. Strata: MV022
4. Finite population correction: leave blank, it is assumed to be 0
5. Sampling weight: MV005 (may need to edit it by dividing 1000000)
