Good evening,

I am trying to merge all Other Biomarkers dataset (from men, children and women) from Malawi 2015-2016 into the Household Dataset. I have used append to unify all four Other Biomarkers datasets, and then merged them into the HH dataset by using the following code:

gen mcluster = hv001
gen mnumber = hv002
gen m01 = hv003

sort mcluster mnumber m01

* merge mother's characteristics into PR file
merge m:1 mcluster mnumber m01 using "`secondary'", keep(master match)

However, all I get are duplicates and I am not sure at all of what I am doing wrong. If anyone could help me with this I would be quite grateful. Thank you!

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

In the PR file, hv003 is the line number of the household respondent. It is the same for everyone in the household because it identifies the one person who answered the questions in the household interview. The line number of individuals in the household is hvidx. For children, the line number of the mother is given by hv112. I can't be more specific because you didn't say what survey you are using that has an "Other Biomarkers" file.
