Hello again!!!

I am currently working with the Ethiopian DHS and I would like to generate a variable that reports the ranking of girls between 15 and 17 years old, that is in which position are they among their siblings, whether they were the first, second or last daugther bornt. I that even possible?

Thanks,

Daniel.

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

If you are asking about girls who appear in their mother's birth history, you can use bord or bidx. With bord, the firstborn child has the value 1. For bidx, the the value 1 is assigned to the most recent birth. You can use bord to sequence them from oldest to youngest, or bidx to sequence them from youngest to oldest.

However, many or most girls/women age 15-17 in the household are not living with their mother, or their mother is older than age 49, so you can only sequence them by their stated age and birthdate.
