Hi,

As there is a recent upload of datasets from NFHS-5 (2019-21); there are some issues with individual recode (.dta file).

Tabulating data for unmet needs (using v626a and v502) is not providing results similar to India's factsheet /Report that mentions the current unmet need as 9.4% and the unmet need for spacing as 4%.

Please refer screenshot for the same.

Thanks,
Abhi.

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

All the published results should be weighted. Are you using weights? Also please check whether the table in the report limits the denominator to a subset of women. The table title and notes should be specific about such limitations. Let us know if you still cannot get a match.

Hi,

I have been using weights.

gen wt = v005/1000000

tab v626a [iw=wt] if v502==1

The result is pasted as an attachment.

Thanks,
Abhi.

Following is response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

An error has been found in the construction of v626a. It will be corrected in the next version of the NFHS-5 data files.
